I suppose I should clarify. I recognize Babbit's historical importance. That doesn't mean I like his music. If you want to hear some engaging and sensual serial music, try Pierre Boulez.
I think that Babbit's reputation is still suffering from the aftereffects of a stupid editor with his article "Who Cares if you listen?". What a dumb thing. The article is actually quite interesting. I'm still not going to retreat into the academy, but I can understand where he's coming from.
